2017
November: Our collaborative paper on the mechanical stiffness of islets in Type 1 Diabetes was accepted for publication to JBC, in close collaboration with Paul Bollyky's lab at Stanford.
September: Welcome Matt Miller and Emily Yang, rotation students from the IMMP program.
April: Congrats to Jeff for publishing his work on using CyTOF in primary immunodeficiency diseases in JACI

March: Congrats to Tim for publishing his major work on the cytoskeletal regulation of the immune synapse in Science Signaling. The paper was chosen for the cover image!

December: The lab move to UCLA is finished. Hooray!
June: Congrats to Ken for publishing his work on mechanical force generation and sensation in T cells.

October: We received a grant from the Stanford Cardiovascular Research Institute to study T cells in adults with congenital heart disease
September: Welcome James Hardin, PhD student in Immunology, as a rotation student. He's working on a rare immune disease.
August: We received a grant from the Stanford Child Health Research Institute to study T cells in children with congenital heart disease
June: Welcome to our newest postdoctoral fellow Irina Gurevich, PhD, who trained at the Weizmann Institute under Prof. Guy Shakhar
May: In a show of force, the Butte lab shows four posters at AAI, three from the lab and one with Joleen Sweere in the Bollyky Lab:
- The Actin Capping Protein Alpha-Adducin is Required for CD28 Costimulation.
- Role of microtubule acetylation in T cell activation and downstream function.
- Rho kinase activity dampens the activation of CD4+ T cells.
- Orienting incoming PhD students through hands-on training in immunology research methods.
2014
September: We were awarded a 5-year R01 award by the NIGMS to study the influences of nanomechanical forces on T cells
2013
August: The lab is awarded an NSF grant for 3 years for mechanobiology
July: Andrew's collaborative work with Vahid Serpooshan in Pilar Ruiz-Lozano's lab is accepted for publichation in Biomaterials
June: Manish is awarded the Tashia and John Morgridge Faculty Scholar award by the Stanford Child Health Research Institute
April: Welcome Ken Hu and Adi de la Zerda to the lab. Ken is a PhD student in Biophysics and Adi is a PhD student in Materials Science and Engineering.

5/18/12 Jianwei publishes a string of papers in using AFM to measure cardiomyocytes, in Science Translational Medicine, in PLoS ONE, in Stem Cells and Development, and again in PLoS ONE.
4/24/12 Tim wins a slot on the T32 -- Training Grant in Adult and Pediatric Immunology. Congrats!
3/7/12 Our second paper, on the use of our planar waveguides for counting cells, is published in Biomicrofluidics. Manish was interviewed this morning on KGO/ABC news radio!
